She was using the hotel’s gym by 5am, because she
really wanted some privacy. She made sure she had her tunes with her to
block out any outside noise or distractions, using both plugs. She
needed to come to grips with what she had done last night. And this was
a good place to do it, as long as she was alone. She had run away from
John and his desires, their desires, she corrected herself. She did
proposition one of her previously identified playmates as she walked out
the door. Lucky for both of them, he was willing and able to
accommodate. They barely made it to his car before she was tearing his
clothes off. They hadn’t left the parking lot before she reached her
first orgasm. They managed to find a safe place to park so they could
get more serious. He was a young man with lots of energy, one of the
reasons she picked him, she knew. He didn’t disappoint her, he fulfilled
her needs and she reciprocated. Just the right thing to scratch her
itch. There was no feelings involved, just sex, great anonymous sex, she
reflected.
How was she going to face John today and for the rest of the trip, she
worried. She was pretty sure she would be in better control of herself,
now she had last night’s experience under her belt. No more drooling
over him like a school girl, thank goodness. Now that she had that
figured out, she was able to concentrate on her workout and get out
before David showed up, or worse John.
David showed up a few minutes before six, she was still there. They
nodded in greeting to each other since it was too early for
conversation. He didn’t say anything to her, partly because he didn’t
know what to say or if it was even his place to say anything. Plus she
was fully plugged in to her tunes, meaning she didn’t want to be
disturbed. She looked like she didn’t have a hangover. She looked like
she felt okay. Not sure how she did that after all that alcohol, but
then he reminded himself that he was just getting to know her, more of
her than what she normally showed him or the guys. She finished her last
set, looked over to him and said, “See you after your TV thing this
morning,” and she left.
She took the stairs to her floor, needing to burn off some more energy
and trying to avoid someone, she admitted to herself. She wasn’t ready
to cope with him yet. Unfortunately, John liked to start his workout
with stairs, so they met between the 9th and 10th floors.
“Hey,” was all he said to her, feeling very awkward again. He couldn’t
take his eyes off of her, admiring the curves he could see in her
workout gear.
“Hey yourself. Look, I’m really sorry about last night. You scared me,
and I knew I’d had too much to drink to make an intelligent decision. I
didn’t want either one of us to regret anything that happened, so I
bailed on you. I’m really sorry,” she said in a rush. She surprised
herself with her honesty.
He heard what she said and was quiet for a moment absorbing it, not
really sure what to say to the beautiful creature dripping sweat in
front of him. He knew he should be mad at her for last night but that
wasn’t how he felt at all. He shook himself mentally and said, “Sorry
for freaking you out. My bad. I hope you don’t hold it against me.” He
hadn’t met a woman that told him he scared them before. He didn’t know
how to take that.
She smiled and said, “No, of course not.” God, what was wrong with her,
she thought. I shouldn’t be feeling this way around him, not after last
night’s medicine, she thought.
“Car comes for us at nine; make sure to grab something to eat before.
It’s another busy day. We pick up David on the way,” she said as she
started slowly up the steps again.
He waved at her to indicate he heard and started back down the steps
again. Once he had gone down several flights, he let out a deep breath.
What the hell is wrong with you Cena, he asked himself. It’s not like
you haven’t seen a pretty girl before, he continued berating himself. He
was pleased to see Big Dave was already well into his workout by the
time he got there. It meant he didn’t have to make conversation yet. He
had too much going on in his head at the moment.
Forty minutes later, David was just finishing up with the last of his
arm curls when he said, “You just missed Carrie, she was here a few
minutes before you,”
“I know. I ran into her on the stairs,” he admitted between presses.
“She say anything about last night,” the older man wanted to know.
“Yeah, said she was sorry and that I scared her,” John replied. David
was quiet for a moment, not sure if Carrie had been telling John the
truth or not. He didn’t know very much about her private life, he
realized, so he didn’t have anything to judge it by. She seemed composed
around the guys, but that was only one aspect of her life, he realized.
Maybe she did tell John the truth. He seemed okay with it, so let it go,
he reminded himself.
“Hey, see you later. I got TV to do this morning,” David said as he was
gathering up his water and towel in preparation for leaving. John wanted
to be able to concentrate this morning, and it was easier if he was
alone. Problem was, once David left, he couldn’t concentrate at all. He
kept seeing her on the dance floor, in her business suit showing all her
curves, in the stairwell winded and sweating. He finally gave up on
getting anything done and went back to his room, knowing it was going to
be a long day.
What the hell, it’s like he’s a kid, quiet and shy, Hunter thought as he
sat next to him in the car. This wasn’t the Cena that he usually met. He
wasn’t sure if he could take teasing from The Game, so he focused back
on to Carrie.
“What do I get if I guess the next one,” he asked her, in reference to
their on going game.
“Ooh, that’s a tough one. I guess since our time is short, how about we
bet on dinner,” she asked him.
“You’re on!” Last time they played the game, she had surprised him by
having Stevie Ray Vaughn and the Beastie Boys. She must have been going
through an old school faze, he thought. Whatever music she had today, he
knew one thing was certain, it would not be country. He suppressed a
mental shudder at the thought.
John was confused by the conversation, but kept quiet. He had a lot of
thinking to do, so he decided to just watch and shut up. Hunter leaned
forward and took the extra ear piece of Carrie’s and put it in his ear,
grinning. He winked at her, thinking he’d just won an easy bet.
“Wait for this one to finish, it’s almost done,” she told the blonde
man. He nodded as the song finished and faded. How did she do that, he
briefly wondered. The next song started and he didn’t recognize it at
all. He listened to the opening chords, the pounding bass drum and still
was at a loss. Carrie was smiling at his blank expression. She knew this
was a tough one.
“Let me know when you think you’ve got this one,” she asked.
“Um, hang on a minute,” he stalled. They listened through the entire
song, while he kept wracking his brain, trying to remember if he had
ever heard this song before. Damn, she might just win this one, he
thought. She waited for the song to fade and asked him who he thought it
was.
“Lil’ Sis, I have to be honest, I have no idea. You got me this time,”
he admitted to her.
“Okay, so where do I want to go to dinner tonight,” she smiled at him.
“I’m thinking somewhere ridiculously expensive that requires you to wear
a tie,” she smiled back at him.
“You’re a cruel woman, you know that,” he joked.
“That’s what I’ve been told, yeah,” she smirked.
“Hey, aren’t you going to ask her,” John wanted to know.
“Well I could tell him, but then what happens when this song comes up
again and he wants to bet,” she smiled at Hunter.
“C’mon, tell me anyway. Like you said, our time is short,” he reminded
her of the unpleasant truth. She stuck her tongue out at him for the
reminder and said, “Gruntruck”
“What,” John couldn’t help asking. The others knew that metal was not
his type of music, so didn’t give him too much shit. She wanted to
explain it a little better for him.
“That’s a group. That’s the way we play the game. You have to guess the
name of the group, since with any luck you can usually take a fair guess
at the name of the song
“You got me on that one, I’ll give you that,” Hunter said as he looked
at the other man and winked. “How about double or nothing, I’m feeling
lucky this morning.”
While he was waiting for the car to pick him up, David recalled
yesterday morning’s conversation with his wife. He had just told her
about Cena travailing with them this weekend.
“What did Carrie say about that,” she had asked.
“She said it was fine, schedules were the same and his travel agent
needed to be killed,” he had said.
“She didn’t say or do anything else,” she pressed him.
“No?”
“Oh, baby. When will you ever learn,” she asked him. He could hear that
he missed something, somewhere.
“What?” he really didn’t understand what she was trying to say.
“Sweetheart, you might as well have been waving some sweets at a
diabetic,” she explained patiently.
“Um, okay,” clearly not getting what she meant. Why was she so confusing
sometimes, especially when it came to her sister?
The more he thought about it as he waited, the more he was starting to
understand what she might have been trying to tell him. Did she really
mean that? Was she referring to Cena or Carrie or both? The weekend
might prove very interesting. Was he up for it? Was Hunter? Shit, maybe
he should have just kept his mouth shut, he worried.
John had started talking once David was in the car, Hunter noticed. He
wondered if Cena was unsure of The Game or was just tired. All four were
in their respective seats, David & Carrie facing back while John took
Rick’s seat next to Hunter.
“How’d it go,” John asked David.
“Good, real good I think. Once they found a chair I could sit in and not
look stupid on camera, it went even better”, David said. Hunter grinned
at him, he knew what a pain in the ass it was to find furniture that fit
them, and didn’t look stupid on camera. Carrie didn’t look up yet, she
was tapping away on her portable, nodding her head to her tunes.
She looked up finally and threw out, “Have you heard from Mike or Kris
today?”
“I talked with Kris early this morning, but not since. I haven’t talked
to Mike today at all, why? What’s up?” He was a little concerned since
she didn’t usually ask him those kind of question without a reason. The
other two were quiet, since it seemed to be a family conversation.
“Strange e-mail from Mike, not sure what the hell he means,” Carrie
explained. “said he’d call you today, so I wondered,” she finished.
“No, not yet. I’m pretty sure I would have heard,” he said with a
grimace, thinking of his new phone.
Hunter laughed, “Shit, that thing is obnoxious. Good job on that Carrie,
by the way.” She smiled at him, as thanks for the compliment.
“What,” John asked.
“Our girl here has a wicked sense of humor. Haven’t you seen Dave’s
phone yet,” he asked the younger man. John shook his head.
“Just wait, you will. I don’t want to spoil it for you,” he said to
John. John accepted that, not knowing what was going on. David could see
he was confused, so he clarified.
“I loose my cell phones pretty regularly. Recently I lost my newest one
in less than two weeks, I think,” David looked to Carrie to see if he
was correct. She nodded, but kept quiet. “Carrie chewed my ass royally
once she found out. But she got even by buying me this phone.”
“Yeah, but you haven’t lost it yet, have you,” she asked the big man.
“There is that, I guess,” David admitted. “”Plus you warned me the next
one would be worse,” he laughed. It seemed the phone knew when it was
being spoken about, because right then, some hideously obnoxious noise
started, somewhere in David’s jacket, quickly followed by, “Are you
ready kids… Aye, aye Captain…I can’t hear you,” was still coming from
his suit pocket. He was trying to find the right pocket to answer it.
“Shit Dave, hurry up,” Hunter teased the frantically searching man.
David finally found it and shut it up by saying, “Dave here…Funny you
should call…Carrie was just asking about you…”
John was barely listening, he was still tying to get over the sight of
Dave’s new phone. What the hell? She bought him a Sponge Bob phone? She
really was mean. He did look kind of funny, he had to admit.
“What...That’s a bunch of shit and you know it…What…Yeah, she’s right
here…k, talk to you later, bye,” as he handed the silly phone to Carrie.
“Hi Mike,” she said. She was smiling in to the phone that didn’t look as
silly in her smaller hands, John thought. She continued, “Let me look in
to that today…Yeah, after we land…Did you manage to tape today…cool…you
need an answer soon?….shit, don’t you start on me too….These assholes
have been shoving food at me since I first saw them a couple of hours
ago…Well….whatever….No, I’m good, thanks….Okay, I’ll look around and
give you a buzz back later…Thanks…no, I will. I promise... You think
these guys would let me get away with that shit....I bet they’ll sit on
me if they have to…you guys are weird…k, talk to ya later, bye.” She
handed the phone back to David and glared at him and Hunter.
“Shit, you guys got Mike nagging at me too.” It wasn’t a question. She
looked from one to the other guilty party.
Hunter was the brave one this time and spoke up. “Don’t be mad at us for
caring about you, Lil’ Sis,” he said earnestly. She stared at him for a
long moment.
“I can’t believe you managed to say that with a straight face,” she
finally said.
“Lots of practice,“ was his only response. She wasn’t amused, but let it
go. Why was everybody harping on her about eating? Hunter had given her
an apple as soon as he saw her in the lobby that morning. It didn’t
matter that she said she had eaten. He glared at her until she started
to eat. Now Mike was calling to nag at her too. That was going just too
far. Well, he did have a question about the supplier, she remembered.
But that seemed to her like an after thought to him. It hadn’t been
their main topic; instead it was him asking if she’d eaten today? Was
the moon full or something? She didn’t know if she could take another
one of those days so soon.
“Who’s Mike,” John asked David.
“You remember Mike, my buddy who used to ride with us sometimes when we
were in OVW,” David asked him.
“Um, no. But then it’s still damn early,” he admitted.
“He was the big guy that you thought you had a match against in Philly,
right after you started. You remember him?”
“Oh shit. Now I remember. He still that big?” John asked.
“Nah, he had a hard time keeping the bulk, like I did. You know how much
you have to eat. He might be smaller than me now,” David told him. He
remembered constantly eating, regardless if he was hungry. He had to
feed the bulk, as he thought of it. He and Kris used to joke about it.
Carrie had forgotten that Mike used go on the road with David a few
years ago. She had also forgotten that he used to be that bulky. Hmm,
interesting that she had forgotten that.
“Smaller than you is relative, Big Dave,” John laughed.
“Yeah, well. He is a couple inches shorter, that hasn’t changed,” David
admitted.
“He’s just as ugly too, last time I saw him,” Hunter joked. Carrie had
also forgotten that Hunter had met Mike, several times. She seemed to be
forgetting a lot of stuff about Mike recently.
“Hey, he still got that hot woman,” Hunter asked David.
“No, he’s living the single life and loving it,” David replied.
“Lucky bastard. Weren’t they practically married,” Hunter asked his
friend. Carrie didn’t say anything, but she followed the conversation.
Mike was single?
“How long ago? New Years they were joined at the hip,” Hunter was still
surprised.
“Eh, a few months ago I think. He says he can’t believe he put up with
her shit for so long,” David said.
“Buddy, you know why he did. Hell, we all know why. But there comes a
time, when even that ain’t worth it,” he smirked. John was following the
conversation too, and grinned at Hunter’s last statement.
“Shut up. I don’t want to hear any more,” Carrie interjected.
“What? I didn’t say anything,” Hunter protested.
“Yet,” she corrected him. She was still absorbing the news that the
Lovely Lisa was gone. Kris or she hadn’t heard a word about it.
“Why didn’t you say something,” she directed to David.
“Um, didn’t think it was important,” David said with a shrug.
“Well, shit. There were quite a few dinners he missed because Kris
didn’t want to offend the Lovely Lisa,” she told him. She shook her head
at his obtuseness. Men.
“That can’t really be her name,” John asked.
“No, Kris and I called her that since she was perfect,” Carrie informed
him simply.
“Sis, she was far from perfect. Mike has said a few things that would
probably shock even you,” David told her.
“I feel better knowing that, stupid of me I know. I’m sad for Mike. But
I thought she was perfect and it was very depressing to be around anyone
that was that gorgeous and perfect,” she said honestly.
All three men were surprised by her admission. None of them had ever
considered how Carrie perceived herself in relation to other women. She
obviously thought she didn’t measure up. That was far from the truth, as
far as any of them were concerned.
“What? You have got to be fucking kidding me, right,” David asked her
gently. A long ago conversation with his wife was tugging at his memory.
What was it?
“No,” she said softly, realizing she had said too much earlier.
“Carrie, what I told you last night wasn’t the alcohol talking, since I
didn’t really have time for any, chasing your ass around,” John said as
he looked directly at her for once.
David remembered John’s admission of what he had said to make her run
away and kept quiet, not sure where this conversation was going. Hunter
had an idea exactly where this conversation was going and wanted to stop
it before it went any further. He just had to figure out how, quickly.
“What are you supposed to check on that got Dave all pissed off,” he
asked Carrie.
“What? Oh, some supplier is giving Mike the run around about delivery
dates. It’s all bullshit, I think they’re stalling or trying to get more
money out of him. He’s too damn nice when it comes to some shit,” she
said.
“That is the one thing I don’t envy you, Dave. Those kind of headaches.
At least you have Mike and this tough chick in your corner,” Hunter said
shaking his head.
“Yeah, I am lucky, I know. When else fails, I let Kris deal with ‘em.
She’s tougher than all of us, except maybe Carrie. When the two of them
team up, look out, no one is safe,” he laughed.
“You didn’t stand a chance, did you buddy,” Hunter teased.
“No, but I didn’t mind,” David admitted. They were quiet the rest of the
way to the airport. The previous conversation had left them all with
something to think about. Hunter’s suspicions about Cena were looking
like they were right on target. Shit, now what, he worried.
Mike is single. Carrie was still turning that over in her mind. Maybe I
should have stayed, was the other thing that kept floating in to her
thoughts. Wonder how imperfect Lovely Lisa really was, flitted in just
as they pulled up to the unloading zone at the airport.
This beautiful woman doesn’t know she’s hotter than hell? That’s messed
up. What can I do to change that? I know, I know, but will she let me,
were John’s main thoughts.
She shocked me today with her admission. What did Kris tell me a long
time ago, something about Carrie’s childhood. Shit, why couldn’t he
remember it, were David’s main thoughts.
At the airport, for the first time in a long while, all of them had to
empty out all pockets, even the stuff going through x-ray. They asked
David to take off his shoes, which he did silently. They seemed to be
weighing asking Carrie something before waving her through, but Hunter’s
scowl stopped them. They eventually did ask her to please open up her
portable, show that it was functional and then asked her to crack the
case open, too. She complied, but the boys knew how irritated she was by
the last request. She waited until she was far away from the security
check point until she said something.
“Fucking assholes. What did they think they would find? If I was going
to blow something up I certainly wouldn’t hide it there. Shit heads,”
she angrily stated.
“Did it mess it up,” John asked her.
“No, probably not. All my stuff is always backed up, but I’ll have to
buy a new one since once they have been opened they tend to pop open
unexpectedly. Assholes,” she grumbled.
“Oh, that’s sucks. Sorry,” he said.
