Looking at this week’s schedule, she realized it was going to be tough to make the adjustment that David had asked her to do, on a couple of the days. But, she would do it. He said he didn’t care if he lost sleep, he needed to make time to train everyday. She had a pretty good idea why he requested that adjustment. And she couldn’t fault him for it. If he thought that getting in the gym and relaxing into his workout would help him keep his cool then she was willing to do what she could to help him achieve some kind of balance.

As she pulled her legs up and got more comfortable for the flight, she had a chance to think back on the last few weeks and how it seemed to have changed some things between them. It felt like David was pissed at her for something. She didn’t really understand it, other than her being the person who had to tell him about his baby. Thinking back on that night, she was glad she was wearing her slacks today, because she felt a little chilled in the plane today. Maybe it was just her, she didn’t know.

She scanned her portable, looking for ways she could manipulate some things for his requested hour a day. Sunday and Monday would be easy, but today, tomorrow and Saturday would be tough. He’ll just have to get up early, he said he would. She was also trying to figure which day would be best for her to have a night off to go play. She knew if she didn’t get her brains screwed out soon, she was going to start to be very indiscriminate in her choices and she didn’t want to go down that road again. Shuddering at some of her previous stupidity, she vowed to not do that again.

David knew he had two back to back signings today, almost as soon as they landed. She wasn’t sure if he knew who he was booked with. It didn’t usually matter to him. He was professional, even to Christy, who didn’t deserve it. She breathed a sigh of relief knowing that neither of them were Christy. She still had to beat that little bitch’s ass, and if she timed it right, it might happen on this trip. God, just the thought of that was enough to chase away some of her worries. David was quiet next to her, probably trying to get some rest since he knew this trip was a busy one. There were a couple of times it looked like he wanted to say something to her, but he didn’t. He just closed his eyes and relaxed.

After making it past the rental car area in Boston, she scanned the cars, looking for theirs. She didn’t see it and started to get agitated. David was next to her, signing stuff for fans, so he was unaware of her stress. Just as she was ready to call the company and request a new car, a man in a drivers uniform walked up to her and asked if they were the Batista, party of two. At her nod he said, “Please follow me, your car is waiting,” and guided them both out to the taxi, limo pick up area. The driver continued walking past many waiting taxis and several limos. She thought maybe the driver was lost.

“Yo, Big Dave! You lookin’ for something?” she heard some one say.

Both of them turned in time to see a close cropped brown head poking out of a sunroof of a limo. He was grinning from ear to ear, looking pleased with himself.

“Bastard. You had me worried there for a minute. I thought we’d have to call the car company and ask for a new one,” David said truthfully.

“Nah, just thought I’d share the ride with you since we’re going to the same place. How you been buddy?” he couldn’t stop grinning at his long time friend.

“Good, now I know where our car is. Carrie, this is John Cena. He just switched over to Raw. He and I have known each other since OVW. He’s not happy unless he’s yanking my chain,” he warned her. John opened the car door and stepped out to slap his buddy on the back.

“Man, don’t taint my image. I’m a good guy, who just happens to like to mess with you,” he said as he switched his gaze over to her. His eyes widened as he really looked at her for the first time.

“Pleased to meet you, John. I think I remember you from your time in OVW. Didn’t you finally beat David for the title?” she asked him as she extended her hand to him.

“Um, yeah. I did,” he said as he took her small hand and shook it gently. He couldn’t stop staring. He knew he was being an idiot, but he couldn’t help it. He had no idea that the “pretty lady” that others described Big Dave traveling with looked like this.

“Excuse me a moment, gentlemen. I need to speak to the driver and then we can load up and get out of here,” she said as she walked toward the front of the car.

John looked at his buddy, looked back toward Carrie and looked again at Dave. He ended up just smiling and shaking his head, not knowing what to say. David was amused at his friend’s reaction to Carrie. He was so used to her that he rarely considered what other men must think when they first meet her. To him and all of Evolution, she was Lil Sis, but Cena obviously thought of her differently. He put their bags in the trunk and was just getting ready to get in the car as Carrie walked back to them.

“Our driver is available all day, so we shouldn’t have too much trouble getting to the second stop,” she said to both of them. David took her information in stride, he was used to her, but John just nodded his head. He didn’t know what she was talking about obviously.

Once everyone was settled, Carrie rode facing back all by herself, she flipped open her portable and tapped out some notes for herself. John raised his eyebrows at her actions, but said nothing. He just watched her, then looked back to his buddy, who was trying hard not to bust out laughing at his friend’s confusion.

“I have a place where you guys can change, if you’d like,” she said. “We should get there in about 15 minutes, then another 10 minutes to the signing and it’s show time. All the supplies, posters, cd’s are already on site, so we don’t have to worry about that this time.”

John just blinked at hearing the news. He wasn’t used to having someone know all the stuff in advance. There was usually a screw up or two, he knew. It came with the territory.

“What’s the matter buddy? You looked confused,” David said to his friend. He knew that John wasn’t usually quiet, but Carrie and her organization had silenced him. It was a new experience.

“Um yeah. I’m not used to having someone figure all this shit out before I get there. Something always seems to go wrong, that’s just the way stuff happens,” he said honestly.

“I don’t like it when things go wrong, so I try to make sure they don’t,” Carrie said simply.

“We had some real bad screw ups a few times with double bookings and just a bunch of other stupid shit, so Carrie makes sure that doesn’t happen,” he told his friend.

‘Oh,” was all John could say. He was only able to stay quiet for a few minutes. Before long he was talking and laughing at the stories he was sharing with David. He couldn’t help himself. He missed his buddy and was really looking forward to spending some time with him on this trip. He knew they had two signings together today. It looked like things were going to go smoothly, if Carrie was any indication.

Carrie was sitting across from the two boys and was trying her best to appear busy. She did remember John from his OVW days, she remembered him very well in his tight, shiny trunks. She was rattled and trying to keep herself busy. She knew it was because she needed to go out and have a “night on the town” or putting it more plainly, get her brains screwed out soon. John was a huge temptation to her in her current state. But then, Bischoff might not be safe around her right now either. Yeah, focus on Eric, you don’t like him and he’s not a temptation at all, unlike the hunk of man sitting opposite you right now. Keep it together, you don’t need to step into that mess. You know better. Yeah, but it was so much fun to think about. Speaking of fun, remember how nice it felt waking up in Mike’s arms. Jesus, you really are sad. Yes, I know.

While she was having a discussion with herself, the driver had arrived at the appointed place where they could change into some fan signing appropriate clothes. It was a friend’s condo, a friend of Carrie’s. They were out of town and had allowed Carrie to use it for the specific purpose of letting her friends use it as a changing room.

“You remember the code,” she asked David.

“Yeah, pretty sure. It’s not like it’s a tough one to remember,” he admitted.

“I know, I’ve warned them about that, but they won’t listen,” she said.

“What are we doing,” John asked.

“Carrie has found us a place to change into more comfortable clothes, instead of having to pull over somewhere,” David explained.

“Oh,” John absorbed the news.

The boys got out of the car and went to the trunk that the driver had opened for them. Both of them grabbed a smaller case and walked to the entryway of the condo. Soon after, they both disappeared inside.

The quiet gave Carrie a brief respite from her hormonal urges. She needed to get her head back in control. It was a long day ahead and she couldn’t function very well if she kept drooling over herself. She also took the time to tweak a few things for Sunday and Monday’s schedules.

Once they were inside, John turned to his buddy and said” How come you never said you were traveling with a hottie. Damn, some guys have all the luck. You have a beautiful wife and you travel with little miss fine out there. That’s just not right,” he griped.

“What can I say? Some of us are lucky that way. Seriously, she is a wonder. She really keeps shit organized,” he said as he was taking out his change of clothes. They both decided to change in the main living area, less likely to mess anything up, plus it was just easier.

“So, who is she man,” John asked. He started to untie his shoes and pull off his shirt in preparation to changing.

“She’s my sister in law, Evolution’s little sister, be careful,” he warned him. He was doing the same, shoes, shirt and pants.

“What? I’m not thinking anything bad,” he lied as he put on his jeans and a standard t-shirt and tennis shoes.

“Um yeah, sure. You haven’t said a coherent sentence since you met her,” David reminded him.

“Hey man, I’m just happy to see my buddy, Big Dave;” he said as he was packing his traveling suit back in to his bag.

Um, yeah. Whatever you say. Just watch yourself,” David warned him. He had packed his suit and was ready to go back to the car. Several minutes later they emerged in much more comfortable and casual clothes, appropriate for a fan signing.

They stopped at a rest stop for a quick bathroom break before the signing. John wasn’t back yet.

“I don’t know, you’ll have to talk to Hunter. Remember Rick’s home with the flu. It’s not a big deal to me,” was her response to David’s question about John traveling with them this weekend, since every signing he had, John was there too. She knew what John’s agenda was, since it almost mirrored David’s. He did need to get a better travel agent, that’s for sure, she thought.

“You haven’t talked to John about it yet, have you,” she asked.

“No, I just wanted to see how you felt about it first,” David said.

“Oh,” she was surprised by his answer.

“We dump so much stuff on you all the time and don’t think anything of it. Well, I’m trying to not be an asshole here,” he explained.

“His schedule this weekend is very similar. He just needs to kill his travel agent. He’s got a few problems that should be dealt with before they become huge issues, but other than that, not a big deal to me.”

Okay, I’ll talk to Hunter this afternoon,” he said.

“This evening,” she corrected.

“Okay, it’s one of those days, is it?”

“Yeah, after this we have to grab a bite to eat before the next event, or you guys won’t get to eat until after your matches,” she explained. John came out of the restroom and they all got back into the car.

“Do you have any food issues, John? I mean other than protein,” she asked him.

“Uh no. I’ll eat pretty nearly anything that isn’t nailed down,” he said. He was trying hard to not stare or be an idiot. He hadn’t felt so awkward in years.

“So a ‘surf ‘n turf place cool with you?” she asked, looking directly at him. She noticed David smiling at her and looking over to John, recognizing his friend’s reticence.

“Yeah, sounds good to me,” he said, looking past her shoulder, instead of making direct eye contact.

“We are on a tight schedule today, but there’s a decent place on the way to the next event. But I wanted to make sure you didn’t have any problems with it,” she explained. “They know we’re coming and we have a back room to ourselves. I have already ordered David’s and my food. Do you want me to order yours as well, so it’ll be ready?”

John was stunned. So this is how it was supposed to be? Get all you shit taken care of and just be able to concentrate on your job? Wow, he could really get used to this.

“I’ll have whatever Big Dave is having,” he said to her. “Unless of course buddy, you’ve started eating really weird shit since I saw you last,” he directed to his friend.

“No, filet mignon and prawns for me today,” he said grinning back at his friend.

“That definitely works for me too,” John agreed. Carrie flipped open her portable, plugged it in to an outlet in the car and started tapping away. John watched her, fascinated. After a few moments, she closed her portable and said, “Okay, you’re all set for dinner, John. I hope you like it,”

“After dinner we’re off to a media thing for an hour, then we go to the arena so you guys can throw each other around,” she smiled at both of them.

David knew she was joking, but John looked a little worried. “Do we have a match tonight and no one told me,”

“No. she’s yanking your chain, bud,” David said.

“Oh,” he was getting good at just saying that.

Hunter’s response to David’s question that evening about John traveling with them this weekend was atypical, “Sure, Rick’s home, Nan stayed home to make sure she’s well this time, so it’s just you and me and Carrie. We have room in the car, I’m sure. But the locker room is off limits, as always. What do you think Carrie’ll say?”

“She said it was fine, I already asked her,” David said. “She also said his travel agent should be shot, so I think she needs to help him in that area this weekend. You should’ve seen his face when she asked him about dinner, it was priceless,” David went on to tell Hunter how John’s vocabulary seemed to have shrunk to just a few words, his main one was ‘oh’.

“Lil’ Sis tends to do that to the unsuspecting, doesn’t she,” Hunter smiled.

“Yeah, but I think it might be more than that. Not sure, I’ll have to wait and see,” David said.

***

Friday night at the club after the show – Hunter stayed at the hotel tonight.

“So, what are you drinking tonight Lil’ Sis,” Dave asked her, expecting her to say water.

“Johnny Walker, Black, neat” she replied.

He was surprised at her answer, but said nothing about it. “Okay, go grab a seat or two or see if you can find some of the guys. They said they’d be here,” he told her as turned to the bar to get their drinks.

She walked away, looking for some familiar faces. Not yet finding any, but did see a couple of potential playmates for later. Ah, there he is, she thought

“Chris, good to see you. Anybody else here yet?” she leaned in to ask him, since the music just cranked up a couple more notches.

“Yeah, Cena is here. So is Shawn, somewhere. I just saw him, but don’t know where he went,” he explained. He motioned to her to have a seat. He was seated in a very large u shaped booth, in a corner. He sat in the center of the u, since he didn’t like to dance.

“Good to see you out tonight. You never come out with us,” he said to her.

“Yeah well, tonight I felt like getting a little wild, what can I say,” she smiled at him. He raised his eyebrows at her, not too sure of her meaning, worried that he might understand exactly what she meant and worried for her if he did.

Lita and Edge joined their table, with their drinks in hand. She didn’t have much contact with either of them, since she wasn’t a wrestler but was polite and friendly when she did see them.

“Good to see you guys,” she said.

“Yeah, good to see you, too. How come you’re out playing this evening,” Lita asked her.

“Eh, wild hair,” she grinned back at the red-haired wrestler.

“Oh shit. Does Big Daddy Dave know,” Edge said.

“Does Big Daddy Dave know what,” David asked. He returned with their drinks and a pitcher of water. Carrie thanked him for her scotch and downed it in one gulp.

“That she’s like that,” Lita said, pointing to Carrie’s now empty glass. David looked at Carrie’s glass, looked at her and looked back at her glass. He’d never seen her drink before, other than a beer occasionally so this was new.

“Don’t worry, I’ll get my own this time,” Carrie said getting up from her seat. She missed the look that passed between Beniot and David, but Edge and Lita saw it.

“Did you piss her off or something,” Chris asked.

“No. I’ve been behaving today,” he smirked.

“She looks like a lady on a mission,” Lita remarked. “I didn’t know she knew how to drink.”

“Me neither. But when she asked for Johnny Walker Black, you know she knows what she likes and you just shut up and get it for her,” Big Daddy Dave said with a wink.

“Shit, I’m enjoying the show. She has no idea, does she,” Edge asked Dave as he pulled his eyes away from her retreating from.

“No, none,” David said.

Chris smiled his understanding at their cryptic comment and said, “She’s always been that way, at least since I’ve known her. She’s the only women I know in this company who goes out in public without any makeup on, and doesn’t give a damn.”

“Her sister is the same way. They’re two of a kind,” David supplied.

“Lucky bastard,” Edge said.

“What’s the music tonight, anybody know,” Chris asked.

“Oh yeah. It’s metal. It’s one of the reasons Carrie chose this club,” David said.

“What? She’s a metal head, too,” Edge grinned.

“Always. It’s what she has in her player all the time, even at 6 am, she got metal of some kind playing,” David explained.

“Hmm, learn something new everyday,” Lita said with a smile. “Honey, can you grab us some more beer?”

“Sure, same? Anybody else? I’m buying this time only,” he tempted them. With that news, everyone wanted a refill. Edge just shook his head and went to get a tray full of drinks.

Carrie made her way back to the table with two drinks this time. One was a shot of whiskey or something similar and the other was a large beer. Everyone saw what she brought back, but no one said a word to her about it.

“Anybody else show up yet,” she asked.

“Not yet. Edge is on a drink run, you just missed him,” Lita told her.

Carrie took her shot glass and drank it all in one gulp again. Nobody said anything, just sipped their beers and waited for whatever she was going to do next. No one had ever seen Batista’s Little Sister slam drinks down before. She just grabbed her beer and took a few large swallows and set it back down, like everyone else.

“You were great tonight,” she told Lita. “I really like what you did and I think you surprised the crowd, too,”

“Thanks. It was fun,” Lita admitted. David had decided that he was going to drink the beer that Edge brought back for him then switch over to water. Carrie’s behavior was worrying him, since it was so out of character.

“The party can start, Cena’s here,” John said as he slid into the booth, next to David. He had a beer in one hand and a sharpie in the other.

“Party’s already started. You’re way behind. Carrie’s kicking all our asses,” Lita said. At that news, John looked over to the pretty lady with the very big beer in front of her and smiled at her.

“Cool, now we can get serious,” he said to her.

David knew his buddy well enough to know what he meant, but he was pretty sure no one else did. Carrie picked up her beer and took a long drink from it before she sat it back down and asked if Lita could let her out.

“Sure,” she said.

“Thanks, now where the hell is the DJ in this place,” Carrie asked no one in particular.

“Why, he won’t take requests you know. It’s metal night,” John said.

“Yeah, metal night is good,” she nodded her head to herself at that pronouncement. “I have a request or two that he might play if I ask,” Carrie said. John was surprised that she liked metal, he missed the earlier conversation. She walked to the ladies room and disappeared inside.

“What the hell happened,” John asked his buddy.

“What do you mean,” David asked.

“Man, I thought she was quiet,” he confessed.

“That’s only a small part of her. Remember what I said earlier,” David tried to explain to his friend. They discussed their matches and some of the funnier signs in the audience as they waited for their drinks from Edge.

“Where did she go,” John asked since he didn’t see her leave the ladies room.

“She’s making her way across the dance floor, looks like she is going to talk to the DJ,” Chris said. David didn’t say anything, he just was glad he was here to make sure she was safe. Carrie leaned in to speak to the DJ. He looked at her, pulled his headphones down so he could hear her better. She started explaining something to him, he started nodding. After a few more moments, he put his headphones back on and gave her the thumbs up sign as she left. They lost her for a few minutes on the dance floor. She reappeared again dancing on the far side of the room with some guy.

“Who the fuck is that,” John almost shouted.

“No idea,” David said to his jealous friend. John got up from the table quickly and walked towards the dancing couple with a purpose.

“What’s got in to Cena,” Edge asked as he returned with a tray full of drinks.

“Carrie,” Lita said simply.

“Oh, now that I do understand,” he said with a secret smile just for her.

They all lost sight of John for a few moments. Nobody had seen Carrie since the last song ended. John reappeared at their table without Carrie, looking confused.

“She come back this way,” he asked worriedly. David shook his head. He was just getting ready to get up and look for her when she seemed to just appear at the table.

“That was fun,” she smiled.. “But, I had to come back for my beer. Lita, can you slide it this way. Thanks.”

“Hey Carrie, can I talk to you for a minute,” John asked.

“Sure,” she shrugged. Oh shit, don’t do anything to piss her off John, David thought.

They walked away from the others and found a relative empty spot near one of the walls, under a light. Nobody at their table said anything since all eyes were glued to the couple. They could see John start to talk to her, quietly. She nodded to him and smiled. She still had her beer in her hand and took a large swallow as she listened to him. He continued to talk to her waving his arms and pointing, she continued to smile at him. Then she shook her head, finished her beer and walked towards the dance floor again.

That didn’t bode well, David thought. At least she didn’t hurt him, was his next thought. John came back to the table, looking like he felt a lot better after their chat.

“That looked like it went better than I expected,” Edge said.

“Maybe, I told her she needed to be safe, this club wasn’t a safe place for her. You know what she did? She just smiled at me. What the hell does that mean?” he asked David.

“It meant she heard you, but…” David said with a shrug. He knew it meant she was going to do what she wanted anyway, but ‘thanks for the tip’ kind of thing. Evolution had plenty of experience with her about the same thing. She hated to be “protected”. She tended to ignore it, sometimes recklessly so.

She came back to the table with another beer several moments later. She knew she needed to stay away from John or she was going to jump him right in front of everyone. That would not be good. He was just trying to be nice, she knew, but she had to stay away from him. She was practically vibrating out of her skin tonight, she felt so wired. Not good, girl. She knew she better scratch that itch soon. She set her beer back down as her head started to nod with the next tune.

“Ah ha. I knew he was a good guy,” she smiled to John. “See, he’s playing the Rob Zombie tune I requested.” She got out of the booth and started to wander out to the dance floor again.

“Hey, hey, wait up. I want to dance with you,” John said as he followed her out to the floor.

“You think he’s used to that,” Chris asked David.

“No. But being humbled is good occasionally,” David said.

“I bet he doesn’t think so,” Edge chimed in.

The others saw the couple dancing with each other, at the edge of the crowd. They moved together, weaving in and out of the dancing mass. It was hard to keep track of them at times. They danced through several song changes, smiling and dancing with each other with ease. Then the music changed to one of the few slow songs of the evening. Carrie headed off the floor, but John grabbed her arm and took her back on the floor for another dance. He smiled at her, trying to let her know he meant her no harm; he just wanted to dance with her. She smiled tentatively back. He pulled her in close and they moved to the slow beat of the song.

“Carrie, did anyone ever tell you how fantastic you are,” he asked quietly. She said nothing, she had her head resting on his chest, trying to keep her composure and not rip his clothes off right there. She enjoyed listening to him and feeling him speak to her at the same time through his t shirt. He felt so good, just leaning into him made her almost loose control and groan out loud. She enjoyed just being held close. He took her quiet to mean she was shy, which she could be but not in this instance.

“How come you run away from me,” he asked her gently. She didn’t say anything again, but did step in closer so they could move as one. She could tell exactly how he felt about her, and he thought he knew how she felt about him, one small hand on his ass and slowly grinding on him. She kept her head rested on his chest, not looking into his eyes. She knew that she was on the edge of control and didn’t want to loose it, so she kept her eyes closed. They were dancing on the far side of the floor, no one else they knew could see them.

“Baby, why have you been running away from me today? I don’t want to hurt you,” he said quietly. She just shook her head against his chest, didn’t look up and didn’t really answer. She did grind into him, which he enjoyed. He was ready to throw her down right there, in front of everyone, he thought. Damn, my brain is gonna explode soon was the only other thought that made it through his animal haze.

“Stay with me,” he asked her quietly. His voice sounded rough even to his own ears. She stopped moving and lifted her head, looked into his eyes and didn’t say anything. Her first panicked thought was, girl don’t open your mouth now or stupid shit will fly out.

“Carrie, how can I say this any clearer, I want you. I want to make love to you tonight,” he said as he looked into her eyes. The song had changed a long time ago, but the couple didn’t notice or didn’t care. “You took my breath away when I first met you and I haven’t been able to think of anything else since.” She took a deep breath before she attempted to say anything.

“John, I don’t know what to say. You make me feel like a kid,” she tried to explain, still speaking quietly so that he could barely hear her. He was confused by her words. Was that a good thing or a bad thing? He didn’t know. But he knew how he felt about her and didn’t want the night to end. How could he get through to her? She was so different from any of the women he usually fell for. He wasn’t sure how to make her understand him.

“Baby, I just know how I feel, and I think I know how you feel,” he said as slid his right hand down from her back to her ass and pulled her closer, pinning her against him. She looked up into his blue eyes, almost losing herself. She could feel him through her jeans and ached to relieve them both. She continued to look into his eyes, not saying anything but allowed herself to be pinned against him. She had to do something or she was going to go down on him right there, she was certain.

“Please excuse me,” was all she could say as she broke their intimate contact and walked to the ladies room. He blinked as he watched her walk away. He waited for her for a bit, then realized she might have gone back. On his way to the table, he tried to make sure others couldn’t see the effect she had on him, even though it was obvious to any woman there. He was hoping she might have gone back to finish her beer.

”Carrie come back this way,” he asked David as he approached the table.

“Yeah, about twenty minutes ago. She said she was leaving and not to wait for her,” he supplied helpfully.

“What the hell does that mean,” John asked.

“Exactly what it sounds like, she was leaving and was going to find her own way back, eventually,” he told his younger friend.

“What?”

“She left man,” Edge said to John since it seemed he didn’t understand Dave’s explanation.

“Did you piss her off, John,” Lita asked him with a knowing smile. She wasn’t fooled by his relative outward calm.

“I don’t think so. I told her she was fantastic, among other things,” John said, thoroughly confused. He’d never met anyone that made him feel like she did. He thought they understood each other. The way she moved, damn. He just sat down, and finished his now warm, flat beer. The others at the table were winding down their conversations because they all had busy days ahead of them.

“I don’t know about you guys, but I have an early date with the gym tomorrow,” David said to the table.

“Shit, you had to bring that up, didn’t ya,” Lita said.

“You want a ride back, bud,” David asked his dejected friend.

“Yeah,” was all he could say.

“See you tomorrow, Chris,” David asked.

“Yeah, tomorrow,” Chris said. He was relieved Carrie went back to the hotel. She had him worried earlier. John & David piled into their rental and pulled out to head back to the hotel.

“So, what the hell happened,” David asked him.

“I have no idea. I thought we understood each other and then she disappeared on me,” he said confusedly.

“What did you say exactly, to make her run away,” he enquired. John blushed at the question. It wasn’t one he had ever had to answer before. But they were talking about Big Dave’s little sister, so he better answer.

“Um, I um, I told her she took my breath away and I wanted to make love to her,” he admitted quietly. He was glad the inside of the car was dark so David couldn’t see how embarrassed he was. David absorbed John’s answer, trying to figure out how it might be considered offensive to Carrie. He didn’t see it, but then Carrie wasn’t a normal woman. John mistakenly took David’s silence for anger.

“Hey man, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to,” John started to say.

“Nothing to be sorry about, bud,” David said. “I don’t see how that should have made her run away. Hell, I say that to my wife all the time,” he grinned and looked over to the other man. They drove the rest of the way in silence. Once they arrived back at the hotel they both headed up to their rooms.

“Gym at six,” David asked.

“No shit? Um, well yeah probably since that’s the only time we’ll have tomorrow,” John said.

“Okay, see you at six,” Dave said as he turned the corner to his room. He opened the door, set down his key card and picked up the phone.

“So, you want to tell me what the hell that was all about,” he asked the voice that answered.

“No,” she said. The line was silent for a few seconds. “Good night David, see you in the morning,” she said and hung up.
