They had walked a few steps away from the closed door when Hunter turned
to the other two, while stroking his moustache, and said, “We’ve been
manipulated again, you know?
“Oh yeah, always. But at least it gives them a chance to talk. Think
she’ll talk to Nan?” Rick asked Dave.
“I’m not sure, but I know she won’t if we’re there. What kind of food
are they serving today, I’m hungry, man!” he said as his mind switched
over to more immediate needs.
Rick slapped the bigger man on the back, “Trust you, you’re always
looking out for your next meal.”
“Hey, it’s how I snagged my beautiful wife! Worked for me then,” he said
with a smirk.
“Yeah, how is she? We don’t see her much anymore. She’s lots pretty than
you to travel with!” Rick teased him
“Fuck you old man. She’s good, in fact she’s great. She’s busy being a
mom, keeping everybody, including me, out of trouble.” He missed her,
the kids, his own bed, (he could smell the catering, they must be
getting close) and damn he missed her cooking.
“Bet that’s a full time job” Hunter said with a laugh.
“Huh? What? Are you fucking with me again?” the big man said as his
brain was switching into eating mode.
“Guys, lets not start that shit again. I don’t have the strength for
it,” Rick said. David had wandered off un-noticed by the older man.
“Rick, it doesn’t matter, we’ve lost him to more important matters,
food!” Hunter said with a grin to his hero. David had walked up to the
catering tables with two plates, nothing on them yet, but his look said
he fully intended to fill both, for himself.
“Shit, at the rate he’s going, there won’t be anything left for us!
C’mom,” Rick said with a laugh.
As the remaining members of Evolution walked through the catering area,
many employees and several wrestlers left. The few that remained kept
their distance. It’s not that they were afraid of them per say, but
discretion was best when dealing with them. Everyone knew they looked
out for each other. It didn’t matter that they weren’t Evolution in
front of the cameras anymore, they were still a tight group away from
the public.
Of the few remaining people that were left, one particular red head
looked at the group with hunger in her eyes, but caution. She was unsure
of her plan or how to achieve it, but she hadn’t abandoned it
altogether. She was too much of a woman for that. She flipped her hair
back, got up with her tray full of trash intent on throwing it away.
“Hey Christy, why don’t you come over here so I can compare the real
thing to the magazine,” one of the younger wrestler piped up.
She pretended to ignore him with a flip of her skirt. He was like all
the rest, jealous. She did make sure she had to walk closely by
Evolution on the way to the garbage.
“I’d still like to have that talk, now that you’ve ditched your
bodyguard,” she whispered to David as she slithered by. Hunter was close
enough to hear her. He was about to say something to her when a loud
crash stopped him. David had gripped his plate so hard that it
shattered.
“Get the fuck away from me, bitch” he said quietly from between clenched
teeth. “Get away before I loose my temper. I don’t have as good a
control over mine like she does.” His face was flushed, he was instantly
sweating, he was so angry. Hunter had never seen him react this way.
Christy was taken by surprise by his instant fury. She stumbled a few
steps back.
“Better get the fuck outta here. He’s not called The Animal for nothin’,”
Hunter said with an evil grin.
She looked from David, to Hunter to Rick. She was met with looks of
anger and disgust. She didn’t know how she had made them all so mad. She
just couldn’t understand it, everybody liked her. They always said so.
She wasn’t good when dealing with unexpected results so she did the only
thing she knew how to do. She ran away from the scene she had created.
She turned around and ran out of the catering area, without looking
back. Several people whistled at her as she ran away.
The same young wrestler said, “Can I take that as a no, then?” His
remark was met by laughter from his few fellow diners; all except
Evolution. David was still so angry, he couldn’t speak. Hunter reached
for his other plate, just in case, and set it back down. He motioned to
Rick to grab them all something to drink. A few long seconds ticked by.
“C’mon, big man. Can’t have you breaking dishes over her, she ain’t
worth it man,” Hunter said as he touched the furious wrestler on the
shoulder to get his attention.
“Don’t you think I know that? Fuckin’ bitch!” He was still furious, but
had managed to stop shaking. He allowed Hunter to guide him to the table
Rick had taken, on the far side of the catering area.
Once they were all seated, Hunter leaned into David and said, “Guess
that answers some of my questions, doesn’t it? How come Carrie didn’t
beat the shit out of her? Hell, we all know she can.” He was genuinely
surprised that their Little Sister, as they all called her, hadn’t
retaliated.
“Beats the fuck out of me. I wish she would have,” David said in
disgust.
“Wait a minute, are you telling me that little bitch is how our little
girl has that shiner?” Rick was incredulous. Rick was looking from one
man to the other, not believing what he was hearing. “What’re we gonna
do about it?”
David took a deep breath and blew it out before answering him. “She says
she has some plan and she’s messing with her. Don’t ask me, I don’t get
it either. But she does know why she’s after the rest of us.” The last
statement was met by surprise. “I didn’t tell her but she knew somehow.”
God, how could he get his temper back in control, David wondered. He
seemed to be walking a very thin line recently. That wasn’t good for
anybody. He had almost lost it a few times at home and that thought
scared him more than anything else.
“Lil Sis has some kind of plan?” Hunter was smiling. “This could be very
interesting! Do we know what or when?” he enquired of the now calmer
“animal”.
He took a deep breath before answering, “No, not that made any sense to
me. Carrie said something to her about a ‘free one’.” The others were
just as confused by this additional info.
“Are we talking about her deal with Randy here or something else,” Rick
asked.
“I don’t know, that’s why it didn’t make any sense. She’s as confusing
as her sister, trust me. You don’t even want to see them together”,
David said with a slight smile.
“So, we’re just gonna let this go? You can’t be serious Triple H!” Rick
asked him.
“Of course we’re not gonna let it go, but let’s give her plan a chance
first. Then if that doesn’t work, we deal with it, our way. Okay?”
The other two men agreed with that plan, for now. Hunter knew that Nan
had to be kept out of it. She hated Christy more than anyone he’d seen.
She wouldn’t be able to stay rational and this was all the ammunition
she’d need to rip her head off.
“So, what were you going to have for dinner before the plate had an
accident?” Rick enquired of the big man. Their conversation switched
back to food and other mundane things. They didn’t notice or care that
the area was deserted except for them. They enjoyed their meal, once
they were able to make it through without breaking any plates. David
knew his buddies were going to give him shit about that plate. It was
just too easy. He would have too, if it had been one of them. Better
than the redhead any day, he thought.
Because of their tight schedule they weren’t able to drop off their bags
and check in to the hotel before going to the arena; a fact that Carrie
was grateful for with the late night flight ahead. She waited until the
boys had left to go out before she dragged her bag to a big chair. She
unzipped it quickly and with deft movements grabbed her traveling home
clothes, a more comfortable fit for her, certainly. She couldn’t wait to
get out of the tights and shoes. She snagged her clothes from on top of
her suitcase, went to one of the far alcoves and quickly slipped into
her more comfortable clothes, a pair of jeans with a black evolution t
shirt. She walked back out to thankfully slip into her tennis shoes and
tucked away her clothes. She dragged her bag back out of the way.
She grabbed a large towel and 2 large waters from the ice bucket that
was ever present in the locker room. With all her supplies in hand, she
was ready to accompany Nan to view the show from just inside, on one of
the monitors. She could hear the crowd’s reactions. She smiled to
herself as she watched the professionals, who had just a few hours
earlier been ready to really hurt each other, play to the crowd and get
in each other’s faces. The crowd really loved the current rivalry, and
they showed their appreciation for it by boo-ing the hell out of Triple
H and Rick every chance they got. She knew Triple H was playing the
audience to get the reactions that he expected, and she thought they
probably did too, but were happy to play along. Some might find it odd
that she thought of Hunter as Triple H when in the ring, but she knew he
was just playing a role, much like David did as Batista. Nan only ever
called him Hunter, she had noticed. Made sense to her, she thought.
The TV cameras had stopped rolling and the boys were just announced as a
handicap match, two on one. The crowd loved it, of course. The match
went as expected with the bad guys beating the hell out of the lone good
guy. They took their time in the ring, using maneuvers that were never
seen on TV. The three guys knew and trusted each other in the ring and
it showed. The fans were rewarded with their solo good guy over coming
unbelievable odds and getting the win. It was hard for Carrie to watch
sometimes, because she knew that many of the moves that they performed
were painful, even to them. She could appreciate how sore they were all
going to be later, especially Mr. Flair.(damn, Rick). How he was able to
still take body slams at his age, whatever it was, she didn’t
understand. Nan always enjoyed watching, she never missed a match if she
could help it. Carrie knew to stand away from her as she watched any
match because she sometimes got carried away.
Finally as the boys were making their way up the ramp to go backstage,
Carrie said quietly to Nan, “I’ll tell him after he showers.” Nan nodded
to let her know she heard and understood. She was swept up in Hunter’s
arms as he came through. She laughed at him and he smiled as they walked
away.
Rick looked at Carrie and laughed, “That’s a beauty. Let me know when
you’re going to beat her ass, ‘cause I wanna watch!”
She was dumbfounded, had David told them? He must have, but Hunter
didn’t look ready to kill. That didn’t make sense. She was still turning
that over in her mind when David stepped through and surprised her.
“Sorry, I’m just a little distracted, here” she said giving him the
towel.
“Understandable”, he said quietly. He took the first water from her
silently, drinking it completely. He hadn’t moved to go back to the
locker room yet. She wasn’t sure why.
She asked,” Did you tell the guys about Christy”
“They kinda figured it out. The dumb bitch tried again when we were
getting dinner. I don’t understand your plan, but I hope it works,
soon.”
“It will, she too stupid to not keep trying”, she said with a wicked
grin.
She handed him the second water, “Sorry I didn’t bring the phone, I
spaced it”, knowing she didn’t forget, but didn’t want him calling home
to no one. He nodded, he wasn’t one to give her shit about forgetting
phones. He motioned for them to walk back to the locker room so he could
shower and change.
This is where it’s going to be difficult, she though to herself. With
any luck the other guys will be finished, before she breaks the news to
him. They walked through the backstage mess, into their locker room. The
other two had finished with their quick showers by the time they got
there. Carrie breathed a sigh of relief. She caught Hunter’s eye and
realized Nan had told him. Both Rick and Hunter were quiet as they
finished getting dressed.
Rick slapped David on the back and said, “Good job today, Dave.”
He looked up in surprise at the praise. Not because he didn’t think he
did a good job, but they don’t usually talk about it too much. He
shrugged it off, grabbed his shower kit and smaller bag of clothes and
headed for the shower. Everyone was quiet as they assembled the rest of
their gear, making sure not to leave anything behind.
Hunter asked quietly, “You’ll let us know what is going on, won’t you?
Let Dave know we want to help any way we can.”
“Of course,” she said.
She thought she heard the water turn off in the shower room, so she
knocked on the door and asked, ”David, it’s Carrie. Are you decent?”
“No” was his muffled reply.
Nan gave her a quick hug and whispered, “We’ll be praying for her,” as
they picked up their bags and turned to leave.
Carrie turned back to the shower room door and said, “It doesn’t matter.
I’m coming in anyway. I have to talk to you.”
She waved at the three as she opened the door and stepped in to the
shower area. David was standing by one of the benches, with a towel
wrapped around hastily, surprised to see her. His bag of clothes was on
the bench. She didn’t normally come in when he’s was undressed, not that
it seemed to bother either one of them, he thought with a grin. She’s
more like his sister than his own sister.
“What’s up that it can’t wait?” he asked as he slipped off the towel so
he could put on his shorts.
He noticed she kept eye contact, as always, as she said, “Kris asked me
to…”
Before she said any more, his heart stopped. “NO! What’s happened?”
“David, please let me finish,” she pleaded. He started to feel sick, he
sat down quickly on the bench before he fell.
“Melissa is in the hospital right now. She’s on loads of iv’s to help
her. She’s on a respirator to help her breathe.”
“Our baby….?” was all he could mumble out. He felt like he was going to
throw up.
“She’s fighting; she’s a tough little girl. The doctors finally figured
out what’s wrong and they are doing everything to help her. She’s in
ICU, but Kris is with her, has been all day. The older kids are with
your mom.”
He heard her, but he couldn’t seem to make sense of what she’s saying.
He couldn’t think of anything other than his little girl surrounded by
strangers and he couldn’t help her. He felt like he was in a fog. He
finished getting dressed automatically, while Carrie kept talking to
him. He couldn’t understand her, it was like she was speaking a foreign
language. He felt so confused, why couldn’t he understand what she was
saying?
Then he heard her say, “David, do you understand me? Do you understand
what I am telling you?”
He heard her alright. He was so fucking mad that she let his baby be in
the hospital all fucking day without telling him. He couldn’t think
straight, he couldn’t even see straight. It was like there was a fog or
a mist or something. He didn’t understand it. He was so angry he wanted
to hit something, anything. He grabbed his shower kit and threw it as
hard as he could against the back shower wall. It exploded and all the
contents sprayed against the wall. That wasn’t enough for him. He needed
to do something else to get his anger out. He looked at his smaller bag
that he brought in with him. He picked it up and hurled it against the
shower wall. It made a loud thud and bounced twice before it stopped
moving. That’s still wasn’t enough. I need to really throw something, he
thought to himself. Looking around the shower area, desperate to find
something else to hurl with all his might, he only saw her. The one who
kept his baby from him all day. Perfect. He’s gonna make her sorry, he’s
gonna make her pay, was all he could think. He didn’t recognize the
small woman in front of him; he just needed to make her pay.
“David! NO!” He heard her but ignored it.
“David, don’t do this! Don’t make me do this!” What the fuck was she
gonna do to me, he sneered to himself. He picked her up easily. She’s so
light she should bounce a couple of times too, like his bag, he thought.
